Another pen and ink, this time from a reference photo of Ballycotton a long time ago, with a few additions of my own , such as the figures and the donkey and cart. This one is on heavyweight Fabriano watercolour paper which I find a much better surface for the ink than the other papers I have used so far. I am going to take a photo from the same place and do a painting showing the scene in the present time.
I love this, Phil, but how are you getting the shading. Is it a wash?

Thanks Vicki.yes I am using a brush and diluting the ink with water like using watercolour,,so the phrase "pen and ink" is a bit misleading, I should have said pen and wash.

While I live in Wisconsin, USA, my dad's family is from Fermoy and Mallow, not too far from you! The two figures walking down the road are like a vision back in time!

Very nicely done - you added the figures and donkey seamlessly. It is a timeless painting, and when you said you were going back to paint it I was startled, and remembered where I was and what we lack. When you say heavy paper, by the way, how heavy?

ReplyDeleteThe atmosphere in these wash drawings/painting is lovely. I lok forward to the "modern" view. Are you going to draw it "warts and all" as it is seen now? or perhaphs it has not changed !
ReplyDeleteHi Alissa, yea will draw it warts and all. It has changed but not majorly, we have tarmac on the road, and it's hard to get a decent shot with all the cars. and the donkey has gone!
