Bullfinches reworked

Bullfinch349-001
Bullfinches. Coloured Pencil. Reworked.
bullfinch-1 (2)
Bullfinches. Coloured Pencil. Original version.

I painted this originally in 2007 and posted it on here in Jan 2011, (bottom image) but I was never really happy with it , my patience ran out building up the colour and I had an exhibition coming up so I framed it and exhibited . It didn’t sell and I wasn’t really surprised and it’s been hanging in my studio ever since. Every time I looked at it I thought “must take that down and rework it”, so finally I have. What do you think, old or new? I know what I think!

This is still a work in progress but at least she has a head! I started this yonks ago to try out oil pastels but I didn’t get on well with them, then I tried acrylics and then oil paint over it, making up the scene as I went along, which is very unusual for me.This is the cropped version, which is the one I prefer, below is the uncropped one. Which do you prefer?

Work in progress

IMG_0344
Morning all, thanks to everyone for reading this blog and for bearing with me while I learn to do it properly.      This is the painting that my darling husband is currently working on. I think its great but the detail of the crowd and the horses ( the most difficult part) is still to be done.  We await the finished product.IMG_0354
Here are some of Phils students paintings outside the studio. they are really good. Everyone is welcome to come visit us, even inside the studio, just smile at the bear and all will be well, mostly!!!!!P9180577
Here is the beautiful Ballycotton Lighthouse Island, we consider ourselves very lucky to live in this wonderful place. Bob the Blogger.

Another new pic

Cottage & Ponies024
Acrylic on canvas board 5” x 7”
Another small painting in acrylic. Staying with the theme of ruined cottage and animals, this time a pair of Connemara ponies (I’m sure I will be corrected on that!)
Next weekend is another Bank Holiday and some of my work will be on display on the stand of
Cork Craft & Design” in “The Big Shed” behind the Grain Store in Ballymaloe, as part of the “Ballymaloe LitFest of food and wine”. Looking at the program this would look to be a fabulous week- end festival with something to interest everybody. For more details check www.litfest.ie

Where did May go?

Can’t believe the month of May has gone, what happened to it? I seem to have nothing accomplished this month, in fact artistically have been totally in the doldrums, must be the after effects of the exhibition!
10 paintings sold altogether in the exhibition, ten more than we expected given the depths of the recession Ireland is going through. Sold two myself which at least covered my costs.

This is another of my efforts at sketching with soft pastels, reasonably happy with it but I don’t think it has as much life as the other two I posted.

The other side

Haven’t got round to posting for the last few days, and haven’t done a whole lot of painting either, time just seems to be slipping away. Will have to get a move on as an exhibition coming up at the end of April.

IMG_0115-1

Thought I’d show a different side to my art today, every now and then I turn away from the representational and just throw paint.I love to see what happens when I just let the paint run and I love using primary colours, the more vivid the better. Never quite sure how to put a title on them though.

Still Cold

Hi all, had a busy few days so haven’t found the time to post anything. My art classes are back in full swing, running 5 of them a week, which is great and have an exhibition coming up soon, at the end of April, so really got to get some work done.

IMG_4186

Here’s one I started a few weeks ago, but as usual the fire went out and I’m left struggling what to do with it. I have already painted out the evergreens at the back of the shed, although in life they are there , they seem to not fit the picture.I have replaced them with leafless ,winter, trees.

IMG_4002

This is the photo I took , so as you can see I have a ways to go.My painting is altogether too warm. I made the opening in the half door larger because I may put a horse looking out and while Doing this post have decided I might put a couple walking down the lane. Watch this space!

On a different note, I was honoured and delighted to receive an invite from Cathy Johnson, to contribute to the blog Sketching in Nature .This is a wonderful blog with amazing artists .I posted my first contribution last night, so if you have a chance take a peek.
