Cobh from the pier.
16"x12" Ink pigment on acrylic paper.

The colourful town of Cobh is a great inspiration to paint. Love this view from the pier.

Peek a Boo

Oil on Canvas Board
7"x5"

Using up oil paint left over from classes , it made a nice change from the ink pigment I have been using lately. I had a small painting on a canvas board that I had discarded, unfinished, so decided to use the board.
I have painted so many derelict cottages lately I thought a derelict car would be a nice change, still the same theme though.

Coloured Pencil

Found these two, unfinished, coloured pencil paintings, when I was doing my annual studio clear up. Decided to finish them and think they didn't turn out too bad. I love working with coloured pencil, but have to be in the right frame of mind as they can take so long building up the colour. Anyway , decided to do some more so watch this space.

SUMMER AT LAST

The view from the Bayview Hotel, Ballycotton, where myself and 7 others of the Old Road Painters group had our Summer night out. What more could you wish for , a view like this and superb food and wine. It was wonderful to dine “en plein eire”.

I have been going through some of my old sketchbooks. This is a page of a Pied Wagtail that conveniently bathed in a puddle alongside my car in Ballynamona beach, near Ballycotton. He was totally unconcerned by me.

This is still a work in progress but at least she has a head! I started this yonks ago to try out oil pastels but I didn’t get on well with them, then I tried acrylics and then oil paint over it, making up the scene as I went along, which is very unusual for me.This is the cropped version, which is the one I prefer, below is the uncropped one. Which do you prefer?

“ Brid on the rocks” Oil on canvas. 30”x40”
Hi all, hope today finds you all well, This is a painting of me on the rocks, at least that’s what I call it.I hate photos of myself so the only compromise was for me to look out to sea.Still I love this because it’s got real depth. It nearly sold a couple of times, but secretly I’d be happy if it never sold!
One of Phil’s  favourite songs when he’s a bit down is  “Always look on the bright side of life” by Monty Python, so if you need cheering up have a listen.

Work in progress

IMG_0344
Morning all, thanks to everyone for reading this blog and for bearing with me while I learn to do it properly.      This is the painting that my darling husband is currently working on. I think its great but the detail of the crowd and the horses ( the most difficult part) is still to be done.  We await the finished product.IMG_0354
Here are some of Phils students paintings outside the studio. they are really good. Everyone is welcome to come visit us, even inside the studio, just smile at the bear and all will be well, mostly!!!!!P9180577
Here is the beautiful Ballycotton Lighthouse Island, we consider ourselves very lucky to live in this wonderful place. Bob the Blogger.

Art Weekend

Hi everybody, I am back in one piece from my groups art weekend. In fairness there was quite a lot of painting done , but also a fair amount of gin and tonic and red wine consumed. The food was amazing as all the girls in the group are tremendous cooks.

The weather could have been better but I did manage a couple of outdoor sketches using my new hand made sketchbook that I got from EDM member, Vicki Holdwick.

Ardmore

This one was the beach just below the house we were renting, I was lucky enough that a young couple wandered into my view, which puts a nice slice of life into the sketch.

St Declans

St Declans Cathedral dates back to the 12th century, unfortunately as you can see its a ruin, but the round tower is almost perfect, not sure what age that is.

There is a lovely cafe/gallery if you are ever in Ardmore , Co Waterford, run by artist,Breda O’Brien, she has kindly asked the group to exhibit some of our work in June .

Art weekend

Waterville1

Its a lovely sunny, though freezing cold, day in Ballycotton today, and it reminded me of a morning a couple of years ago, in Waterville, Co Kerry. Spent the week-end with the art group I belong to , the plan was to sketch and paint and maybe drink a few glasses of wine.Needless to say we drank numerous glasses of wine and did a few sketches and paintings….par for the course….a great weekend.

Here’s a couple of sketches I did before the wine took over.

EDM Callenge 304

shoelaces

belt

I tried to think of something less obvious to sketch for this challenge but the brain wasn’t being very ambitious, so I settled for tying shoelaces and tying a belt. I tried to sketch fairly fast so that the sketches remained fairly loose. I find using just pencil very difficult as far as getting the values correct, but this is great practice and does stand to one when using colour.

Apple

I am a member of a local art group and we meet fairly regularly with the aim of painting or sketching, this normally degenerates quickly into a wine tasting event , but above is a quick watercolour sketch from last autumn when we resisted the alcohol and actually worked outside.
