"Punts in Ballycotton"
Acrylic on canvas
16"x12" Unframed

I took this picture a long time ago, the punt in the back being that used by the lifeboat to ferry to the crew to and fro. Initially tried to use ink on the canvas surface but this did not work, the ink bleeding too much, so was forced to try acrylic over it which seems to have worked.
I have tried to keep it loose but have as usual got tied up in detail, but I think it has worked out alright.

Peek a Boo

Oil on Canvas Board
7"x5"

Using up oil paint left over from classes , it made a nice change from the ink pigment I have been using lately. I had a small painting on a canvas board that I had discarded, unfinished, so decided to use the board.
I have painted so many derelict cottages lately I thought a derelict car would be a nice change, still the same theme though.

Ballycotton by moonlight

BALLYCOTTON by MOONLIGHT
Acrylic on canvas. 20”x28”
This is a subject I have intended to paint for a long time, as the church is lit up at night it makes a great subject that I was keen to try to capture. A couple of weeks ago there was an amazing full moon which I was delighted to see was directly over the church as I drove into the village. Thankfully I had my camera with me and after a lot of trial and error, not being a great photographer, I finally got a shot I could work with. This is the resulting painting.

Roches Point

OIL on CANVAS. 36"X 12" . €350.00

I have been working on this painting on and off for a couple of years, thinking that it was finished on at least two occasions, but then deciding otherwise and reworking it, in the end , completely. I am finally, reasonably happy with it, but not entirely, so I hope somebody buys it quickly so I’m not tempted to take a brush to it again.
If you are interested in buying any of my paintings you can contact me @ phildavis@iol.ie or buy online on my new works page on this blog theartofphildavis.blogspot.ie or from my website at www.theartofphildavis.com

Time to stare

“ Brid on the rocks” Oil on canvas. 30”x40”
Hi all, hope today finds you all well, This is a painting of me on the rocks, at least that’s what I call it.I hate photos of myself so the only compromise was for me to look out to sea.Still I love this because it’s got real depth. It nearly sold a couple of times, but secretly I’d be happy if it never sold!
One of Phil’s  favourite songs when he’s a bit down is  “Always look on the bright side of life” by Monty Python, so if you need cheering up have a listen.

The other side

“Along the rocks” Acrylic on canvas.

Copy (2) of PICT0002-2 (2)

Thanks again for all the comments gang, one of which mentioned the view, well this is the view from the other side and it looks fairly serene in this painting I did a few years ago, however this morning it’s cold and the wind is blowing, but at least there’s no frost.

I was very impressed by the painting of the market yesterday by Natasha , I have tried oil pastels several times but have always had a disaster. I like markets, in fact I run a business with my son in law, selling fresh fish on Farmers markets, and before Christmas I had a commission to paint a market stall.

The last was taken in different light unfortunately, but at least you get the idea.

Spring Garden

"Spring Garden" Acrylic on canvas. 120x90x4 cm unframed
If you are interested in this painting you can contact me on
phildavis@iol.ie . For other images www.artofphildavis.com

Hopefully, Spring is on it's way, the sun is even shining outside the window and the light is amazing, I should be out painting instead of sitting at the computer, but I felt guilty that I hadn't updated my blog for several days.
As you can see by the picture, I am still in my "abstract" mode, and I have to say that I have never been so fired up about my art as I am now, I find it very hard to stay away from my studio, and in fact am getting up earlier so that I can spend more time there. I find it amazing, that after 20 odd years of being a realist, I have overnight become an abstract artist, but maybe thats only my opinion.
Tomorrow sees the opening of the "Clock Tower Gallery" in Cobh, Co Cork , and I am proud to say that I have paintings on display there. I am in good company , with some of Cork's finest artist there, like Cobh artist Philip Gray, sculptor Blessing Sanyanga, and Cork artist John Adams.
In my last post I asked if anybody could advise me about manipulating my blog, as I found it quite difficult to move photos etc. True to form Katherine Tyrrell of "Making a mark" fame, immediately offered assistance. Many thanks Katherine. If anyone out their hasn't read her blogs or looked at her websites, they should make a point of doing so, the wealth of information for artists on all kinds of subjects is amazing.
